How Long Does It Take To Become A Phlebotomist

Course Overview
Part 1:
Part 1 is about the theory of phlebotomy. You will cover:
The roles and legal responsibilities of the phlebotomist
Health and safety in the phlebotomy working environment
The importance of gaining informed consent
How to control the spread of infection
How to use and apply a tourniquet
How to deal with a Needle Stick Injury (NSI)
The possible complications of venepuncture, and how to deal with them
The anatomy associated with venepuncture
Selecting an appropriate site for venepuncture
Part 2:
Applying Advanced Phlebotomy Practices and Techniques
During the day, you will cover:
Inserting an intravenous needle/butterfly
Collecting blood cultures
Using the Aspiration System
Using a butterfly needle
Using a needle and syringe
Working with the veins in the back of the hand
Working with the veins in the foot
More advanced blood tests and vacutainer combinations
As well as having the opportunity to mix with other phlebotomists and share stories, tips and tricks
You will receive your fully accredited certificate by CPD, within 2 weeks after the end of the course.
Phlebotomy Advanced Programme
1 to 5 days ( Choice of yours) a week for a full 3 or 6 months, but if we can accommodate you for 2 or 3 days, we will inform you in advance for free of charge!
You will be working with real patients based, GP walk-in clinics, you can bleed as much as patients you can within 8.30 am to 11 am per day!
Personal Insurance to undertake the procedure and DBS including on this price
End of 3 months you will receive a Reference if needed.
You are required to provide proof of your immunisation status to Mediqueskills Ltd.

• Varicella (Chicken Pox)
• Tuberculosis (TB)
• Hepatitis B
– DBS process can take anything from 2 weeks up to a maximum of around 3 months depending on the external companies that process these.
